Pioneering Rock Science
The Indian National Group of the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM), presently known as ISRM (India), was registered as a Committee of the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM) under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 in the year 1991. It represents the International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (ISRM) in India and functions as its official national group. The Secretariat of ISRM (India) is located at the Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP), Malcha Marg, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.
The field of Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering encompasses the study of the physical, mechanical, hydraulic, thermal, chemical, and dynamic behavior of rocks and rock masses, as well as the design and analysis of engineering works in rock masses, using appropriate geological knowledge as defined in the ISRM Statutes.
Since its inception, ISRM (India) has been actively engaged in the dissemination of knowledge and promotion of research in the fields of Rock Mechanics, Mining, and Tunnel Engineering. The organization achieves this through the organization of Symposia, Seminars, Workshops, and Training Courses at both National and International levels, often in close collaboration with international organizations and leading academic and research institutions.
